The South Carolina Department of Education is responsible for issuing teaching certificates to potential teachers in the state. If you have not attended a college or university teacher preparation program, you will need to apply for an Alternative Route Certificate.
Eligibility to Teach
In order to be eligible for an Alternative Route Certificate, you must be enrolled in a South Carolina approved teacher preparation program or a South Carolina authorized alternative teacher certification program.
Alternative Route Teacher Certification Admission Process South Carolina Teachers of Tomorrow
To be admitted to the program you must have the following.
A Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution with official transcripts showing a 2.5 GPA or higher
Completed South Carolina Teachers of Tomorrow application, completed interview with our team and pass the screening assessment
Passing on all three Praxis Core tests
You must not have been in a student teaching program with a traditional teacher preparation program or have been in another alternate route program
Once you receive your official South Carolina Teachers Letter of Acceptance
Work with your South Carolina Teachers advisors to help you every step of the way
Begin Classroom readiness Training and Field Based Experiences to make sure are ready to succeed when you get your classroom
Pass your Praxis II Subject Area exam(s)
Apply for the Alternative Route Certificate
Receive Official Letter of Eligibility from South Carolina Teachers
Apply for your Alternative Route Certificate through the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and submit the following required documentation:
Passing score report on Praxis subject area exam
Current FBI/SLED background checks
Application fee of $105
Begin seeking employment once you receive your Statement of Eligibility from the SCDE
Start Your Teaching Career!
Once you have your South Carolina Alternative Route Teaching Certificate, you will begin working towards your Professional Certificate. You will teach for three years on the Alternative Route Certificates. You will complete your remaining requirements during your Internship Year (your first-year teaching).
Complete all Phase II: Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Achieve a passing score on the South Carolina Praxis II Principles of Teaching and Learning exam for your specific grade level
Successfully teach for three years
Successfully complete the summative Assisting, Developing, and Evaluation Professional Teaching (ADEPT) evaluation process
Receive positive recommendation from Campus Mentor and Field Supervisor at the end of your Internship Year
Present your Letter of Completion from South Carolina Teachers of Tomorrow as well as transcript of completed coursework to SCDE for recommendation for our South Carolina Professional Certificate

Should a candidates’s enrollment in the Florida Teachers program be terminated or cancelled for any reason, all refunds will be made according to the following policies:
Cancellation can be made in person, by electronic mail, by Certified Mail or by termination.
All monies will be refunded if the Program does not accept the applicant or if the student cancels within three (3) business days after signing the admission agreement and making an initial payment.
Cancellation after the third (3rd) Business Day, but before the first day teaching, results in a refund of all monies paid to the Program, with the exception of the initial program admission fee ($295).
Cancellation after employment begins as a teacher of record will result in a termination in the collection of monthly payments. All monthly Program payments collected prior to cancellation are non-refundable.
Refunds will be made within 30 days of termination of candidates’ enrollment or receipt of Cancellation Notice from candidate.

South Carolina Teacher Admission Process
South Carolina Teachers of Tomorrow requires all candidates pursuing admission to the program to provide evidence of the following:
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
Official transcripts with date conferred
U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient
Interview with Program Advisor
Passing score on the online screening instrument
Passing score on Praxis 5751 CORE exams or an approved exemption
Program Pricing Details
The total cost of the program is $4395, and over 91% of the costs are deferred until you begin teaching.
Pay only $395 for full access to teacher training, expert guidance, and everything you need to be successful in the classroom.
The deferred balance only becomes payable once you are hired as a full-time teacher, and typically in equal monthly installments over your first year teaching.
